  • Description: Since the 17th century, Taiwan has been a society of immigrants. In the early days, immigrants faced harsh conditions with inadequate medical care and could only turn to Baosheng, the god of medicine, for protection over their health. To express their gratitude, Baoan Temple was established in 1742 in honor of Baosheng. In 2003, Baoan Temple was included in UNESCO’s list of protected cultural heritage sites.
